Our History

Colt in Asia started as KVH Co., Ltd., a business founded by Fidelity Investments in 1999, with the aim to become the highest quality, facility-based carrier to serve the complex telecommunications needs of enterprise customers doing business in Japan.

In 2000, we began the construction of our cutting-edge fibre optic networks and data centres in Tokyo and Osaka and began providing services in 2001. We continued to invest and grow our business when all other foreign-owned carriers withdrew from the Japanese market following the dot-com crisis of 2000. Since then we have rapidly broadened our presence and service portfolio throughout Asia Pacific. We opened our first data centre in Osaka in 2001 and our six and seventh data centres in Hong Kong and Singapore in 2013. We have grown our offerings beyond traditional network and data centre services to encompass colocation, proximity hosting, managed network and IT services, and cloud computing technologies.

In 2014, KVH was acquired by Colt Technology Services, a majority-owned Fidelity Investments company, in a related company transaction. Now integrated into the Colt Group, the former KVH business is able to leverage Colt’s position as a global provider of network and data centre services. The Colt Group overall operates in 28 countries across Europe, Asia and the U.S. with metropolitan area networks in 47 major cities and connections into over 200 cities globally. Colt owns and operates 29 carrier neutral data centres in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

Asia is a very important market for Colt in serving the needs of our enterprise customers and we will continue to invest in our capabilities in delivering integrated IT infrastructure solutions across Asia that allow enterprises to store, process, protect, and deliver vital corporate data to drive their business.
